The capital of South Sri Lanka is Galle. Galle is a very old trading port. The Portuguese arrived in Galle in 1505. The Dutch arrived in 1640 and built the Galle Fort. The Galle Fort, which fell into the hands of the British in 1796, belonged to the Sri Lankans after 1948 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
